HomeVamos falar de arte! Lets talk art!Aug 9, 2004

Let's talk art! In canvas, silk screens, computer screens, wooden boards. Art which is captured in moments, and words, and sounds, images, flavors, smells, textures.
Art for six, seven senses at a time.
The one that we showcase and the one that showcases us. .
Art that maks us sad, or content...nostalgic or inspired... enchanted or nauseatd...Art that makes us think or rejoice...
Art that shakes things up and make us realize that, if nothing else matters... if all we humans accomplished in this journey was destriction, at least there was Art to comfort us...
and, luckily, one of these days, it might even help us recollect our steps and understand our own saga and purpose in this planet.

I just found out about him and was absolutelly captivated by canadian artist JonTodd .

His work is a mix between painting and collage, and it is said to be so rich you need to see it in person, to closely examine all the details, colors and textures.
I can see that just by looking at the images....really hope some nearby gallery host an exhibit of his art, soon. He has now two pieces in Chicago's DvA Gallery Picks of The Harvest Show.... still a bit too far for me to go see.

Yeah yeah... I know.... me and my dollies. This is supposed to be an art blog, not just a doll one. But c'mon.... Look at sweet Evangeline! Look at that dreamy expression on her face! The slender elegance, looking like she was plucked out of a modern turn of the century painting.
The thing is, some of the most amazing artists out there today, are going beyond canvases, oils, pastels and traditional marble, limestone and cast bronze sculptures. They are using plastic clay, and paper, fabric, wood, wire, a sewing kit and some kitchen utensils... and they are kniting, sewing, embroidering, modeling, constructing, cutting and pasting their way into our hearts with toys, and dolls.
Just take a look at Black Eyed Suzie's dolls, to see what I am talking about.

kil studios
Once in a while, surfing around, you bump into a particular artist's website that really blows your mind... and in such a way you are actually willing to annoy your friends talking them into clicking away from your site, email, blog etc...
Ok... kil studios, showcasing amazing dolls by New orleans artist Lateefah Wright, is definitely one of those "you got to see this!" websites.
Well I am a sucker for custom dollies, and I do like'm to be a bit on the dark side. But what this lady Lateefah does... just got me drooling. And slightly envious... In a good "I wanna be just like her when I grow up" way though.
I'm not gonna detain you anymore, just click the link, "cuz " it is worth it. And then come back and tell me about it!
